Igloo iTwin

Igloo iTwin is an extension to the Bentley iTwin platform, utilising both the Igloo Plugin, and the iTwin plugin.

This Unity program allows you to view 3D models federated in Bentley software in an Igloo environment, including floor and ceiling projection.

It has the ability to open iModels from Bentley’s cloud system, alongside opening models stored on the machine the application is running on, in the .bim format.

Starting Igloo iTwin

  • Ensure that your Igloo software is running

  • Start Igloo iTwin from the start menu, or click a pre-created ICE Session or Igloo Home icon.

  • iTwin will then start up, and if you clicked from ICE or Home the warper will already be active on the Spout layer. If not, you will need to open a Spout Receiver, and select IglooUnity.

Selecting the IglooUnity spout layer from the warper GUI
  • iTwin will now be open and visible on the Desktop, and on the Igloo Structure’s walls.

Opening a Model

There are two types of UI available in Igloo iTwin, a Desktop UI, and an On-canvas UI.

Currently to adjust between the UI types an adjustment to the IglooSettings.xml will be required. Please follow this guide to do so, and the value that will need changing is:

<UseUI>true</UseUI> from true (On-Canvas mode) to false (Desktop Mode)

Regardless of which type of UI you are using the processes to open models are the same.

Opening a Local Model

Firstly select the Load Local Model button on the top bar of the user interface.

If you already have a model open, this button will have changed to Restart iTwin due to the inability to dispose of a loaded model safely in the current iTwin plugin.

Secondly, using the file browser that appears on the screen, navigate to your .bim file that has been exported from Synchro Pro or iModel.

Thirdly, click Load and a model will be opened via a node.js backend process.

Opening a iModel

This is currently in development and may not work as epected

Firstly select Load Cloud Model from the top toolbar.

If you cannot see this button, and instead only see Restart iTwin, this is due to the inability to dispose of an iTwin model safely in the current plugin. Instead the app requires restarting to load a new model.

Then you will be required to enter your iTwin ID and your Model ID on the next screen that opens.

These can be located on the developer.bentely webpage, and can be copied and pasted in.

You can also create a sample model like the one above, for testing purposes.

Navigating a model

Moving around a model is done via keyboard and mouse, or Xbox / Steam controller, or Igloo Touch. Just like any other unity based Igloo software.

Selecting buttons and clicking on parts of the software is done with Spacebar or A button (xbox / Igloo Touch)

Hitting Shift, Right mouse button, or X button (Xbox / Igloo) to jump to the next saved view

Lastly pressing Circle (xbox / Igloo) will de-select the currently selected part of the model.

Metadata

When a part of the active model is selected, a window will appear on the UI with all the available metadata for the selected component. The selected component will also turn blue.
