(1.2.0) Desktop UI - Viewing a Simple 3D Model

Version 1.2 of ICE includes a beta version of a simple 3D model viewer. This tutorial describes how to find, load and view a simple 3D model in ICE.

Model Viewer Control page

The control page for the model viewer is accessed from ICE Control Panel in the Apps tab.

Model Viewer icon shown in bottom left of Apps tab.

If the Model Viewer icon does not appear, please contact Igloo support to enable this feature or see the Advanced Configuration instructions here: (1.2.0) Simple Model Viewer

Download an Example Model

Go to www.sketchfab.com and search for Hintze Hall.

In order to download the model (which is free) you will need to register your email with Sketchfab. Click on the download icon in the top-right corner of the model preview and then select to download the glTF format model. This downloads as a .zip file containing geometry and texture files.

Add to the Model Viewer

Unzip the model file and textures to a new folder and then drag and drop the folder on to the Model Viewer control page.

Model Viewer in ICE

Create a new WebView layer and set the resolution to be 12000 x 2000 pixels. Set the URL to http://localhost:800/model-viewer/iglooview .

Add the Cubemap to Equirectangular and TruePerspective effects.

Navigating around the model

On the Model Viewer control page, toggle the Synchronise rotation to On in the Camera options.

Now use the WASD buttons on the keyboard to move the camera in the scene forward, left, back and right. Also the Q and E buttons move the camera up and down. As you rotate the view with the left mouse button, the view in the Igloo will also rotate.

The model will remain in the list on the left hand side of the Control page until removed.

Additional models can be added to the list and the currently selected model will be the one viewed in the Control page and Igloo.
