NDI® Tools is a free suite of applications designed to do video over IP and using NDI protocol. It integrates more devices and applications into the workflow, inserts more content into your production scene, and expands video opportunities throughout your network. Using NDI studio Monitor, we can check the audio-video devices and their output using NDI protocols.

NDI requirements

  • Required Gigabit Ethernet required on all network switch ports. 10gb recommended for compatible servers.

  • Required network switch backplane supports full throughput capacity required

  • Apply theses settings for the managed switch when possible:

    • DISABLE Quality of Service

    • DISABLE Jumbo Frames

    • ENABLE Flow Control as Asymmetrical or simply as On (required for TCP data transfer using versions prior to NDI® 3.5)

    • ENABLE IGMP Snooping if using multicast (mDNS is automatically blocked by many switches when snooping is enabled—refer to documentation from your switch vendor) •

    • CONFIGURE IGMP Querier and Query Interval for each switch in multi-switch networks when using multicast Firewalls & Port

  • mDNS/Bonjour must be accessible for automatic discovery of NDI®

  • Manual discovery requires access to port 5960 for the NDI® messaging server, and subsequent ports starting at 5961 for NDI® video streams

  • Open the TCP port ports in the network for NDI between the range 49152 to 65535.
